New Air Conditioning Installation Service

When it comes time to replace your air conditioning system, you have several choices. Be sure to take your time, if possible. We’re happy to provide second opinions! It’s so important to choose the right air conditioning system for you.

For example, we’ve found a common problem, often builders install a larger than necessary air conditioner. You’d think a big air conditioner would work better than a smaller one, right? Not so. An air conditioner that’s too big cools the area around the thermostat too quickly and shuts down. The home’s temperature quickly rises again and the AC kicks on again.

This creates excess wear and tear on the air conditioner and is known as “short cycling.” Too big is just as bad as too small.

Trust Ray & Son Heating & Air Conditioning to take the appropriate measurements, crunch the numbers correctly, and provide you with options to fit your energy goals and your budget. Contact us today at (229) 215-8223 for more information.

Air Conditioner

Air conditioning units are graded using the acronym SEER, which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The current minimum required by the federal government for the southern region is 14 SEER. The higher the better, for energy efficiency. SEER ranges up to the low 20s.

Secondly, air conditioners are judged on speeds. Variable-speed air conditioners are more comfortable than single-speed units. Why? Because a variable-speed air conditioner adjusts and provides the cooling and power needed at the time, which saves energy. Plus, the adjustments are more gradual. A single-speed unit, while typically less expensive, basically is on or off–full-speed or nothing.

Therefore, a variable-speed unit with a 16 SEER might be a better choice than a single-speed 18 SEER. It depends on your individual situation. Our team is more than happy to sit down and help you weigh the pros and cons while the final decision is up to you.

No pressure. No sales tactics.

Ductless Mini-Split

Ductless units are available as air conditioners or as heat pumps, depending on your needs. Technicians install them on the wall or ceiling using only a three-inch hole to connect the indoor air handler unit to the outdoor condenser unit.

They are quiet and many are ENERGY STAR-rated for efficiency. They come with a remote control and are great for areas without ductwork or older buildings with complicated architecture.

Even if you have central air, you may choose to install ductless units in the two or three areas of the home you use the most. Keep your central air higher in the summer, for example, and use your ductless units to cool the areas where you spend the most time.

This is one way to achieve zoned cooling. Also, because they’re not connected to ducts, the air quality is better.

Heat Pump

Similar to air conditioners, heat pumps use the SEER rating. For heating, they use HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). When you select a heat pump, choose one that meets your heating and air conditioning goals as closely as possible.

Thermostat: Programmable and Wi-Fi Thermostat Models

We represent several models of thermostats to meet your needs, including the Cor, by CarrierⓇ. Curious about a thermostat upgrade? We’re happy to walk you through the benefits of programmable and WiFi thermostats. We caution homeowners to select the thermostat most appropriate for their own HVAC system. Not all thermostats are the same or work as well with just any system. We’re happy to provide recommendations.
